Where do people earn most, and where are the gaps widest?

Income varies a great deal between Norwegian municipalities, and the average does not always tell what an ordinary household has. We went through the public figures for 183 municipalities with at least 5,000 inhabitants, and the range is wide: Sola comes first with 838,300 kr, Eidskog last with 576,100 kr.

Household income after tax, median

Sola comes first with 838,300 kr, while Eidskog ends up last with 576,100 kr.

The middle municipality among the 183 we compared sits at 671,000 kr. That says more about the ordinary than the extremes do. The figures are for 2024.

What the figures do not say

Income after tax says nothing about wealth, house prices or the cost of living. Mean and median can diverge where a few have very high incomes.
